A country’s Olympic quota qualifies its team, not individual athletes. Each National Olympic Committee selects the athletes who will represent it at LA28.
What happens next
The IOC’s versioned qualification system sets the places and progression below. The 2027 continental championships do not award Olympic places directly.
One host-country quota in each event.
The two highest-placed eligible teams per gender earned Olympic quotas.
Championship events and qualification allocations are not the same: Asia and Oceania share one championship event, but each has a separate allocation. Two eligible teams per gender from each of the Americas, Africa, Asia, Oceania, and Europe advance to the 10-team Q-Series field; the championships do not award Olympic places directly.
The top three teams per gender earn the final quotas, representing at least two continents.
The Q-Series is scheduled for Montreal, Canada (June 1–4, 2028) and Orlando, United States (June 8–11, 2028). Countries already qualified cannot enter the Q-Series.
